Nanjangud is located on the banks of river Kapila, on the NH 212 connecting Mysore, a city of palaces and Ooty, a hill station. It is a piligrimage town. Lord Srikanteshwara is the presiding deity. It is also called “Dakshina Kashi”. Nanjangud is 24KMs south of Mysore. The presence of river Kapila has developed this holy town into a busy industrial center with a cluster of small scale and large scale industries. M/S ATandS India Ltd. M/S Nestle Ltd. M/S South India Paper Mills, M/S Reid and Taylor, M/S Raman Boards Ltd., M/S Jubilient Organosys, M/S ITC Ltd. M/s UB ltd., M/s TVS Ltd. are to name a few. These industries are providing opportunity of training and placement for the Diploma holders.

JSSMVP started this polytechnic to cater to the needs of rural people in technical Education. This polytechnic was established in 1984 with Electronics and Communication branch. Later, in the next year two more branches were introduced viz. Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Change in industry and market needs has made the polytechnic to offer a need-based education with on the job practical training in industry. Since 1992 we are offering Co-Operative Scheme of Education, which is an Industry Institution Participation Programme.

JSS Polytechnic has made collaborations with many leading industries of the country. This is the only polytechnic in the entire state of Karnataka to offer Diploma education under Co-Op scheme.Diploma in Mechatronics Engineering was introduced in the academic year 2000-2001, under Co-op scheme. This is the only polytechnic in the entire state to offer this course. During the year 2001, this polytechnic was admitted under Grant-In-Aid rules of Govt. of Karnataka.

Polytechnic has started Diploma in Computer Science Engineering from the academic year 2001-2002, under general scheme.Other than its regular academic work, the polytechnic has been conducting various non-formal programmes like short-term courses in various disciplines, training the rural youths under TRYSEM scheme, training the rural people under community polytechnic scheme (an extension of Community polytechnic, JSS polytechnic for women), etc. Thus, the polytechnic has grown and developed into its present status. The polytechnic works by anticipating the needs and expectations of the Society. Hence, it does not believe in stagnation, but in progression.

Location and General Information The polytechnic is located in the piligrimage town of Nanjangud in Mysore district. It is 24 KMs from Mysore, enroute to Ooty on NH212 and can be reached by either Bus or Train. The buses to Nanjangud run very frequently.
