The department of mechanical engineering was established in the year 1985. The department has well equipped laboratories for material testing, CAD/ CAM, hydraulics and pneumatics, CNC, heat engines and mechatronics labs, workshop and machine shop. New equipments are being added to this laboratory every year. Polytechnic has converted the regular diploma into CO-OP scheme of diploma in 1992, to cater to the needs of the industry. The students are being deputed to undergo training in M/s Bharath Earth Movers Ltd., KGF, M/s HMT Ltd., Bengaluru, M/s Ugra Precision Engineers, Mysore, M/s AMW MGM Forgings Pvt. Ltd., Mysore and M/s Elkayem Auto ancillary Pvt. Ltd., Kadakola. Students will be exposed to most modern equipments used in manufacturing, fabrication, assembling, testing and maintenance. Students acquire knowledge in the area of inspection, assembling, quality assurance, Coordinate Measuring Machine, planning, scheduling and dispatching, on-site training and maintenance. In addition to on-the–job training in industries, guest Lectures, short term training in PLC, CNC programming are being arranged to provide more knowledge. We encourage students to participate in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities to improve their skills. Also, they are given training in soft skills and life skills for overall development. Department has modernized its machine shop, testing lab, thermal engineering lab and CNC lab with assistance from AICTE, New Delhi under MODROBS scheme at the cost of Rs. 36 Lakhs
